VolkerHighways wins big at the International CSR Excellence Awards
Congratulations to our Luton and West Sussex teams, who have both been recognised by The Green Organisation for their outstanding commitment to creating positive, lasting change in their local communities.
Our Luton team proudly received a Gold Award, recognising the significant impact delivered in partnership with Luton Council. Key initiatives include:
- Supporting education and skills development through Luton BESP careers events
- Transforming the playground at Little People’s Nursery, installing a safe, sustainable surface made from recycled materials
- Hosting weekly volunteering sessions at Luton Foodbank and sponsoring its Colour Run, helping to raise vital funds and awareness to tackle food poverty
- Prioritising job opportunities for those most at risk of unemployment
Our West Sussex team also secured a Silver Award, an impressive achievement given the contract had been in operation for less than a year at the time of submission. Highlights include:
- Launching a county-wide mascot design competition across all 246 West Sussex primary schools during Road Safety Week, with over £4,000 in prizes for educational resources
- Partnering with local job centres, leading to one full-time employment opportunity, and working with His Majesty’s Prison Service to employ two individuals through the ROTL scheme
- Supporting care leavers and NEET individuals, resulting in the recruitment of an apprentice
