VolkerHighways hosts its fourth annual client engagement event
VolkerHighways recently hosted its fourth annual client engagement event, Driving the Future of Highways, at Newbury Racecourse.
The event brought together local authority partners, supply chain representatives and VolkerHighways colleagues to share insight, explore challenges and opportunities facing the highways industry,
The day featured four interactive panel discussions alongside a supply chain exhibition, giving attendees the opportunity to engage directly through live polls and Q&A sessions.
With increasing extreme weather and ageing infrastructure placing pressure on the network, panel one, Highway Network Resilience, focused on the need to move from reactive maintenance to a more preventative, proactive approach. Hosted by VolkerHighways’ Operations Director, panellists included VolkerHighways Project Manager, alongside representatives from KaarbonTech, Safecote and West Berkshire Council.
The second panel, chaired by VolkerWessels UK Sustainability Director, explored Climate Change, Carbon Reduction and Sustainable Highways, highlighting the importance of aligning industry efforts to achieve net zero targets. Panellists included Head of HSEQS for VolkerHighways, Project Centre, HRS, Clearview and Holcim.
Panel three focused on Community Engagement through Meaningful Partnerships to create pathways to opportunity. It brought together contributors from the Department for Work & Pensions, Chiltern Academy in Luton, HMP Bullingdon and VolkerHighways’ Social Value Manager. The session was hosted by VolkerWessels UK Head of Sustainability and Inclusion.
The final panel examined Digital and AI in Highways, exploring the growing role of technology in improving efficiency and decision-making across the network. Hosted by VolkerHighways’ Business Development Manager, the panel featured Digital and Innovation Manager for VolkerHighways, alongside Brightly, Smart Vision, Signify and FYLD.
Attendees also had the opportunity to engage with supply chain partners showcasing innovative products, services and solutions supporting the evolution of the highways sector. An outdoor exhibition highlighted low-carbon vehicles, plant and equipment, as well as technologies designed to address long-term infrastructure challenges.
