VolkerHighways awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze Green Apple Awards!
We are proud to share that our Oxfordshire street lighting maintenance contract has achieved not just one Green Apple Award, but three, for its ongoing carbon reduction initiatives.
The achievement is thanks to the contract’s efforts to environmental improvements since the contract began in 2021. During this time, the team has replaced over 34,000 street lanterns with LEDs, resulting in a reduction of over 4000tCO2e achieving an annual projected cost saving of over £2 million. We are committed to driving a circular economy and promoting sustainable resource management. By working closely with our supply chain partners, we are proud to deliver long-term value for Oxfordshire County Council and the communities we serve.
The Green Apple Environment Awards recognised international campaigns to reward and promote environmental best practice around the world. The Green Apple Environment Awards were launched in 1994 by The Green Organisation and have become well established as one of the most popular environmental campaigns in the world.
The team won Gold in the building and construction category, Silver in the electrical and electronics category and Bronze in utilities – all of which were for our carbon reduction achievements.
“We’re delighted to have received three awards for our Oxfordshire contract, reflecting our unwavering commitment to environmental excellence. At VolkerHighways, we never stand still; we continuously strive for sustainable improvement and innovation. It’s a privilege to work alongside a collaborative client who shares our vision of making a meaningful difference for the community.”
