The two contracts – one with the London Borough of Havering, and the second, with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, both began in January 2017, and have now been extended to 31 March 2024. Since 2017, the business has converted approximately 30,000 street lights to lower energy LED lanterns and installed over 3,000 new lighting columns. VolkerHighways has also played a major part in the installation of a central management system across the boroughs to enable improved monitoring and energy efficiency of the street lighting assets.

The extensions will see the business continue to install street lighting columns and lantern replacements, as well as undertaking electrical testing - as part of its independent connection’s accreditation, structural testing, routine maintenance, and emergency call outs. Both boroughs will also benefit from a night scout.
