At VolkerWessels UK we’re powered by dependable, authentic people. They keep our business thriving, with new ideas, fresh perspectives and world-class skills. In return, they enjoy unrivalled opportunities to challenge, innovate, and grow their careers.
But don’t take our word for it – listen to some of the people who are already part of our ‘can-do’ team.
Reece joined VolkerHighways as an apprentice when he was 18. He now works as a supervisor.
Brandon works as part of VolkerSmart Technologies’ telecoms team. He enjoys the new challenges the industry brings, and his great relationship with his team. “Our team has a vast amount of experience and knowledge between us, and we always strive to help each other. What I like most about my role is that it has many aspects to it, and so every day is different.”
Alexandra joined VolkerHighways as an office business apprentice and is now undertaking a trainee quantity surveyor course. She is originally from Greece, and since moving to the UK has completed numerous courses to develop her skills. She says: “I am in my early 40s, but learning doesn’t have an age limit. My line manager and team are very supportive. The courses I have been offered are great opportunities.”
In 2019, Alexandra won CECA Southern’s ‘Most Promising Apprentice’ award and the Mark Scarth – Study, Training and Development Professional of the Year Award at VolkerWessels UK’s Platinum Awards.
Kai has been with VolkerHighways since 2008 as a project manager. He’s also had roles as a quantity surveyor and as the business’ digital innovation lead. He is currently working as part of VolkerSmart Technologies’ telecoms division. “What excites me most about the telecoms industry is its rapid growth and the future possibilities it brings. Being a project manager is an all-encompassing role, and having a wide range of experience has greatly increased my knowledge; I’m able to provide input in many areas.”
Spencer works as part of VolkerHighways’ highways term maintenance division. He undertakes a range of activities, from smaller jobs, such as repairing a pothole, to large infrastructure projects. “We’re always one step ahead and proactive, to ensure we are making the best use of our time. It’s great working as part of a big team, who you can learn from and who are willing to support you in your career progression.”
When Lara first joined VolkerHighways, she was a temporary project administrator. Since then, she’s been working in the commercial team as a trainee quantity surveyor. “I wanted to further my education, and by doing an apprenticeship I get to earn money and get a qualification at the same time. I never thought I would enjoy construction as much as I do.”
