VolkerHighways and West Sussex County Council launch Highway Rangers pilot
We recently marked the start of a nine-month trial to smarten-up West Sussex creating cleaner and better-maintained streets.
The Highway Rangers will carry out small-scale street scene improvement works identified by local highways teams working with county councillors, parish and town councils and community groups. The trial will help assess the programme’s impact and determine whether it could be expanded in the future.
The Rangers will undertake a range of tasks including localised vegetation clearance, sign cleaning, weed and graffiti removal, litter picking and other improvements that help keep our communities looking their best.
In August, we were delighted to be joined by Councillor Erika Woodhurst-Trueman, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, and Michele Hulme, Head of Highway Operations at West Sussex County Council, who met the Highway Rangers and officially launch the initiative. Cllr. Erika Woodhurst-Trueman also rolled up her sleeves and joined the team for a litter-picking session in Worthing.
“The Highway Ranger pilot builds on the excellent work already carried out by town and parish councils, district and borough partners, community groups and volunteers across West Sussex in helping to keep our communities attractive, safe and well cared for. The dedicated teams will provide additional support to these groups by addressing small-scale highway maintenance and street scene issues identified through local councils, elected members, partner organisations, residents and routine inspections.”
