VolkerHighways begins two-year collaboration with Bedford Borough Council
Bedford Borough Council has awarded VolkerHighways a Capital Works Framework contract worth up to £4 million. The contract began on 1 November and will continue for two years, with a possible extension of three further years.
As part of the framework, the first package of work includes the replacement of approximately 100 street lighting columns which are reaching the end of their life span. The new lighting columns will be more durable and aesthetically pleasing.
This contract extends VolkerHighways’ existing coverage of the East of the UK, following the award of their current highways term maintenance contract with Luton Borough Council.
Alistair Thompson, managing director of VolkerHighways, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this new contract, working with Bedford Borough Council. We look forward to delivering a high quality service and continuing to develop our presence, within the region.”
Cllr Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Transport and Highways at Bedford Borough Council said “We’re happy to welcome VolkerHighways to Bedford Borough. Their additional resources and knowledge from other areas will help us to provide an even better service for local residents, delivering resilient and reliable street lighting.”
