Charing Cross Road and Denmark Street resurfacing

Camden

VolkerHighways was contracted by Camden Council to carry out resurfacing works on Charing Cross Road and Denmark Street.

The works were required due to carriageway depression whereby localised pavement surface areas have slightly lower elevations than the surrounding pavement, often causing the area to fill with water.

This was a challenging project due to its busy location, pedestrian and vehicular management, as well as the design, access and egress. In addition, the existing and proposed new road levels ranged from minus 10mm to plus 260mm from the existing carriageway which needed to be considered.

  • Profile planning, laying of road base, binder and surface course
  • Setting the surface to new levels
  • Rebuilt 60 individual pieces of ironworks
  • New road markings
  • Completed across seven shifts
