Windsor hostile vehicle measures

Windsor

VolkerHighways installed the first phase of hostile vehicle measures, at six locations, around the busy, historical town of Windsor.

The hostile vehicle measures being used in Windsor are anti-terrorist protective measures, that are installed around buildings and public spaces that are of particular significance. The works were additional to VolkerHighways’ five-year highway management and maintenance contract with the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.

This project demonstrates VolkerHighways’ ability to respond to specific client needs with bespoke, value for money, high-quality solutions, that are appropriate to the local environment in which they are installed.

  • Provided early contractor involvement (ECI) advice and engagement in solution choice
  • Installed both vehicle access gates and static and rising bollards
  • Enhanced the surrounding paving and surfacing
  • Provided traffic management during works
  • Installed bespoke manufactured cast iron fixtures
  • Worked with the client to programme works around daily closures for guard changes at Windsor Castle
  • Delivered construction solutions to unknown cellars and unmarked underground services
  • Managed the foundation design development
  • Installed additional ‘camouflaged’ hostile vehicle measures
  • Provided a value for money solution
