Rotating Mast Arms: Switch Island Junction

Liverpool

VolkerSmart Technologies recently completed a series of rotating mast arm installations, for Balfour Beatty, at Highways England’s new Switch Island Junction in Liverpool.

  • Nine mast arms provided and installed
  • Mast arms ranged from five to ten metres in outreach
  • Mast arms placed at  strategic locations across the junction, enhancing visibility
  • Each mast arm displays a set of traffic signals
  • Additional brackets fitted to arms, allowing future traffic signals to be added

VolkerSmart Technologies is the new ‘Smart Cities’ initiative from VolkerHighways, who have been installing rotating mast arms for eight years to date.

The mast arms used by VolkerSmart Technologies are a Highways England specified product.

"VolkerSmart Technologies provided a professional design and installation service. The new mast arms are now integrated with additional technology, using road studs that illuminate when the green phase of the traffic signals operate."
