Cambridge North Station

Cambridge

When fellow VolkerWessels UK business unit VolkerFitzpatrick embarked on an impressive, large-scale project to build Cambridge North Station, they chose to collaborate with VolkerHighways on several aspects of the project.

VolkerFitzpatrick undertook construction of:

  • 4,843ft2  station
  • Three platforms
  • Parking for 450 cars
  • Parking for 1,000 bicycles and provision for up to 2,000 in the future
  • Solar panels, providing up to 10% of the station’s power requirements

VolkerHighways delivered:

  • Two new car parks
  • New plaza area
  • Three new access roads
  • Installation of 1,550m2 concrete foundation
  • Finished interior asphalt surface for bicycle park
  • Permeable paving throughout car parks, filtering excess water into underground drainage system, preventing waterlogging

"The new station facilities and highway infrastructure have provided the residents of Cambridge with a new transport interchange for decades to come, linking together access from the railway to highway infrastructure, cycle routes and busways. VolkerHighways should be proud of their involvement in this project and the positive difference the infrastructure they have installed will have on thousands of passengers’ daily commutes."
