Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead awards VolkerHighways with new £38.5 million contract

The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead has recently awarded their Highway Management and Maintenance contract to VolkerHighways. The contract which is worth £5.5 million per year, begins 1 April 2017 and runs for five years, with a possible extension of two further years.

Royal Borough awards VolkerHighways with new contract1

The contract includes planned, reactive and emergency response maintenance, winter maintenance, gully cleansing and small highways schemes. VolkerHighways will also provide professional services, in association with Project Centre, and streetcare in association with Urbaser. The streetcare services will be comprised of litter picking, street sweeping and maintaining the borough’s public amenities.

During the contract, VolkerHighways will invest in the local economy, by working with supply chain partners from within the Royal Borough. This will provide employment opportunities across a variety of roles for members of the local community.

Alistair Thompson, managing director of VolkerHighways said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this new commission for integrated highways services and to be servicing the population and stakeholders of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead. We look forward to forging a collaborative partnership with the council during the coming years and to welcoming the staff and workforce who will be transferring into VolkerHighways as we begin work in April.”

Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member for highways and transport at the Royal Borough, said: “We are committed to providing our residents with quality services and good value for their council tax and this deal with VolkerHighways will do just that.”
