VolkerHighways is managed by a team of individuals with extensive industry knowledge and experience. The senior management team is responsible for the leadership, development and execution behind the company's strategy.
Peter Hyde was appointed Managing Director of VolkerHighways after the company's amalgamation in 2009. Peter worked for John Crowley (Maidstone) Limited prior to the merger as the Operations Director for a short time before becoming Managing Director. Peter has over 25 years experience in Highways and Civil Engineering Contracting carrying out roles as site engineer, site agent, estimator, buyer and senior contracts manager. He is a member of the VolkerWessels UK Executive Committee and leads the VolkerHighways business with full responsibility for strategic direction, performance, growth and delivery. Peter is also an executive board member of the Highways Term Maintenance Association and as such plays a key role in the creation and promotion of highways industry initiatives and best practices.
Rob Stranders was appointed Operations Director of VolkerHighways in 2009. Prior to the formation of VolkerHighways, Rob was Managing Director of MEWS street lighting and prior to that worked in the Highways Division within Fitzpatrick Contractors Ltd. Rob has over 30 years of experience managing Highways and Street Lighting Term Maintenance contracts and high profile projects for numerous London boroughs, Transport for London, the Highways Agency and the Olympic Delivery Authority.
Dave Snowden joined VolkerHighways as Business Manager of the Projects division in 2010. Following his subsequent appointment as Specialist Services Director in 2011, he is responsible for our Street Lighting, Projects, Surfacing, Fencing and Traffic Management divisions. Prior to this, Dave spent six years as Operations Director of a privately owned groundworks company which played a significant role within the supply chain to the VolkerWessels UK group. Dave has over 20 years of experience within the construction industry, working in the past for both national and international civil engineering contractors across the UK.
With over 30 years of Estimating and Civil Engineering experience, Nick Wilson was appointed Estimating Director at VolkerHighways in 2009. Prior to the amalgamation Nick worked as Estimating Director for eight years at Gabriel Contractors Ltd followed by three years at the amalgamated Crowley & Gabriel Contractors. He is responsible for the preparation of competitive estimates for highways, projects, specialisms and lighting, as well as, the submission of tenders in accordance with governance and procedures.
Phil is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 35 years experience in the Highway Sector. He joined VolkerHighways in 2011 as Service Director where he is responsible for seeking out and developing opportunities to successfully raise the profile of the business and ensuring we achieve high levels of service and customer satisfaction. For the last 20 years Phil has fulfilled various senior management roles in Highway Maintenance organisations from both the Public and Private Sectors. Phil is an active member of the CIHT and the NHT and has also been engaged with the wider Highways Sector via his involvement with HTMA, HELG, ACE and HMEP. Phil is currently Project Director for the joint venture with Colas and URS (CVU) bidding for the NE and Central Areas within the TfL (London Highways Alliance Contracts - LoHAC)
Appointed as Commercial Manager for VolkerHighways in 2009, Gareth has over 17 years experience within the construction industry. His skills and knowledge have been built on roles as a Project Quantity Surveyor working with specialist contractors and main contractors. Gareth is responsible for the reduction of costs and optimising the value for all stakeholders. He is also leading the development and implementation of our new works order management system, SMART.
